INNOVATION
No matter how well a business is doing today, if it keeps doing things in exactly the same way, 10 years' time it will have been left behind. The increasingly rapid pace of change continues to turn today's cutting edge best practice into tomorrow's fax machine. To stay relevant and successful, businesses have to change. They have to innovate.

In the eight years he has hosted 'The New Inventors' on ABC-TV James O'Loghlin has met hundreds of people who have thought outside the box and come up with new and better ways of doing things.

He can share what he has learnt about:

  • The process of innovation;
  • How ideas are created, and then tested to see if they are any good;
  • How we can all maximise our potential to generate fresh and useful new ideas;
  • How to build a workplace culture that encourages innovation;
  • Why some organisations are able to harvest the ideas their staff has to improve their business, while others are not;
  • How businesses can integrate innovation into everything they do.

Innovation is not what you do if you have time after you have done all your work. It is the work.

James is a former corporate and criminal lawyer, and also a stand-up comedian. His presentations are full of substance, and very entertaining.

LIFE STORY
As well as being the host of 'The New Inventors' on ABCTV,  James O'Loghlin is an experienced and talented MC, after dinner speaker and panel facilitator.  He gives speeches that are comic and speeches about creativity and innovation.

One of the things James does is tell the story of his life, in a way that is both very funny and which has some relevant and important lessons for business.

James went to a private school, studied law at university and became a corporate lawyer. Then one day he woke up. He realised that he had had every opportunity a person could want in life, but that he had never made a decision in his life, and so had ended up with a career he didn't want. From that day things changed. He threw himself into stand-up comedy, and left corporate law to become a criminal lawyer. He had two parallel careers; criminal lawyer by day, and comedian by night.

He left the law, and since then has forged two more careers, in television and radio.

James's story is about the importance of making choices and challenging yourself, and of not accepting the status quo just because it is seems like the easiest option. It is about taking control of your life, your business and your career by dreaming big, and then getting hard-headed and strategic and making those dreams come true.

It is also extremely funny and entertaining, with many laugh out loud moments

WORK/ LIFE BALANCE
Whilst we live in a prosperous country, many Australians are dissatisfied with their work/life balance. Yet very few do anything about it.
For most of us, there is a big difference between the life we lead, and the life we want to lead. But is there a way of closing the gap?

James O'Loghlin thinks there is. He is the host of 'The New Inventors' on ABC-TV, a former lawyer and author of 'How to Balance Your Life: Practical Ways to Achieve Work/Life Balance'.

James' presentation is full of practical insights that can assist people to continue to do their job at a high level, but also re-claim some time for the things that are most important to them. He will discuss:

  • Getting more done in less time. Do you treat work as a second home, or as someone you go to efficiently do what is needed?
  • The difference between working hard and working long.
  • New communications technology. Many complain that it ties them to work 24/7, yet used intelligently it can greatly increase both our productivity and our flexibility
  • Changing the shape of your work day to give you more time when you want it. Warning: following this advice could reduce the amount of television you watch.
  • Why encouraging work/life balance and flexible work arrangements is good for employers

PUBLIC SPEAKING
James O'Loghlin started doing stand-up comedy 20 years ago, and has been making audiences laugh ever since. He started his radio and television careers a few years later. He is now one of the country's most accomplished speechmakers, and has given thousands of speeches on subjects as diverse as innovation, his own life, work-life balance, and mental health

He is the author of 'Umm'.A Complete Guide to Public Speaking.

Done well, Public speaking can be memorable, persuasive, hilarious and powerful. Done badly, it can make audience members want to stab themselves in the eye with a pen

Good Public speakers are not born. They are made. You can change from being someone who feels nervous and uneasy every time you have to speak into someone who feels confident and relaxed about it. And you can make the speeches you give much, much better.

In a masterclass with James O'Loghlin, you will learn how to create and deliver a speech that people will want to listen to.
